I love my daughter more than I have words to explain. Like I seriously watch her sleep at night and can feel myself falling more in love with her in that actual moment. But for the love of god, there are a handful of things that she gravitates toward that make me INSANE. In fact, I realized that I have formed a (perhaps slightly crazy) list of banned items that I have running through my head at pretty much all times. And I have to believe that I am not alone in my disdain.Read More ›
Two things happened today that confirmed all of the rumors I heard stating that in parenthood, the days are long and the years are short…and that they do, in fact, grow up.
My nephew turned five today. A fact that may or may not cue a mental “…awwww…” on your end. And for our family it is awwww-worthy for sure…but it’s also more than that.
It usually happens at bath or bed time…the parental ponderances…you know…the…“Am I screwing her up? Why is she whining AGAIN about NOTHING? Am I a good parent? Is she growing up to be a good person? How do you teach your child to be a good person? What the hell am I even trying to […]Read More ›
I’m not sure if you have caught the Proctor & Gamble “Thank You Mom” ad for the Winter Olympics in Sochi, but if you haven’t, and you either have a mother or are a mother, you will probably want to take 2 minutes and watch it (and if you are anything like me, and then watch it again, and again, and again)Read More ›
I recently had lunch with a close friend and former coworker and as he sat down at the table, he looked up at me and said, “You look…You look…so…so…happy.” And without pause I said, “I am! At least much more so than when we were working together at this time last year. God, I was […]Read More ›
My sister warned me. She told me this would happen. Kenny Rogers may have said it best when he said, “You’ve got to know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em, know when to walk away… know when to run.” Perhaps he was talking about gambling…perhaps he was talking about love…or perhaps he was talking about parenting a toddler. I’m gonna go with […]Read More ›
I can’t lie to save my life. And if I manage to tell a falsehood, anyone that even sort of knows me, know that all you have to do is ask me twice to get the real answer out of me. Friend: “Do you like this paint color?” Me: “Yes!” (said in really high pitched […]Read More ›
I have a problem…and I think it is a fairly large personality defect that I need help working on… I don’t do patience. I think I am actually wired this way, because ever since I can remember, I can recall asking for something over and over again to my parents, “How ’bout now?…How ’bout […]Read More ›
